Collaborative performance between Sally Kidall + Karin Van Der Molen (Netherlands) + Shilpa Joglekar (India)
On a desolate redundant bridge in the Indian countryside three female figures stand in a row as if on guard. Together they throw their turmeric filled hands up into the air creating vibrant yellow clouds. Slowly the dust descends into the river below leaving a powdery veil on the three women.
Turmeric, renowned for its healing qualities and a vital ingredient in Indian cuisine, was used in this ritual performance to bridge the gap between us and nature, city and village life; opening a gateway to the world of the other. The artists use their bodies in this environmental art performance as a means of expression and as an intermediary between mind and nature.
